Ok, have you seen this???!!!
Lucy Edwards, beauty blogger and social media sensation, is blind...
Born sighted, Lucy lost her vision at 17 years old due to a rare condition. But that hasn't stopped her from taking taking the beauty world by storm!! With millions of social followers, her personal brand is INCREDIBLE and supportive and inclusive and ALL the things we should all strive to be.
And what's really cool, for a brand strategist and identity builder like me, is that she's not only built up her personal brand to increase accessibility and awareness for her own community, but major international brand Pantene (Procter & Gamble) made it possible for me to experience Lucy on TELEVISION! Prime-time advertising! This is an example of a major brand LISTENING to their clientele, LISTENING to what the world is asking for, and actually GIVING us what we are all desperate for!! Inclusion and representation of REAL people!!
At this point we've all seen at least one advertisement with women's real bodies. Which is AMAZING and wonderful and still feels a little unreal. But adopting a blind woman as a spokesperson in a notoriously cruel and shallow advertising space is simply beautiful. I genuinely never gave Pantene two thoughts until I saw this ad. And now I can't stop thinking about it.
Proof that being good and doing the RIGHT thing.... works.
