Silver Lining Mentoring 2018 Match Gala

Every year, Silver Lining Mentoring host their biggest fundraiser in spectacular fashion, but in 2018 they outdid themselves. With the event getting bigger and bigger, they decided to take the plunge and find a bigger and better venue, ie. the Edward M. Kennedy Center (or as we like to call it, event heaven!!). When they realized that stepping up their venue game meant opening up a world of opportunity for design, we were THRILLED that they chose us to walk that journey with them.

getting familiar with the space

If you've ever visited the Edward M. Kennedy Center in Boston, MA, you'll believe us when we say that it's one of the coolest event/educational spaces you can imagine. The ultra modern design of the building is matched by the coolest system of projection signage, making for a super unique event space. When you look at the map of the space, imagine that each number represents an opportunity to digitally brand the whole space. The EMK is a museum by day, event hot spot by night. And the food was amazing too!!

For the Silver Lining Mentoring Gala 2018, we created projected panels for numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, and 17.

getting to know the event and finding inspiration

So now that you know a bit about the space, it's time for some inspiration! Silver Lining Mentoring is a non-profit that pairs youth in the foster care system with mentors. Sounds simple enough right? Well, what if we told you that SLM mentors, on average, commit to begin a part of their mentee's lives for at least 4 years? And what if we told you that youth involved with SLM are more likely to graduate high school, more likely to be employed, more likely to have a bank account or apply to college? Now, think of all that and know that in 2018 there were over 11,000 youth in foster care in Massachusetts alone. Yeah. It doesn't take much more inspiration than that. Our goal in designing these panels was to tell that story. Bright colors, smiling faces of the kids in the program, empowering stories of matches and their successes, an undercurrent of silver running through each panel (the silver lining, get it?), all juxtaposed with staggering statistics about how much more still needs to be done... That's powerful stuff.

enjoying the final product: an absolutely spectacular evening

We were SO grateful to be invited to the Gala so we could see our work up in lights!! Honestly, the night could not have been more moving and we were so honored to have contributed. Working in a space like the Edward M. Kennedy center really brings to light how important event branding really is. If you turned off all those projected images and monitors, all you'd have is white walls and missed opportunity. With the signs on, thoughtfully designed to move people around the room, all of a sudden you have motivated conversation and a coherent story. But you don't have to take our word for it. Take a tour through the images below and see for yourself!

overwhelmed with gratitude

Would you look at that!! That's our name!!! We had no idea they were going to do this until we showed up to the event. So thoughtful, so SO sweet. We were just blown away from start to finish by how kind and how passionate (not to mention fun to work with!) everyone at SLM was!
