I'm openly sharing my own Brand Identity Guide
And I want you to read it. Not because it's amazing and exceptional, but because it is the absolute standard of what this work looks like.
And while you read, I want you to ask yourself a few questions:
-
Now that I have this, how do you think it feels for me to make a decision in my business? Is it easy or hard? Do I waste time second guessing myself OR do I look through what's in here and find the answer?
-
How much easier do you think it is, now, for me to figure out what to do, what to say, and how to talk about my work?
-
How many times do you think I have had to go back and re-work things or change things like my services, my messaging, my marketing strategy? Do you think I still struggle with that? Or do I just come back to this document for all the answers I need?
Just read through... and think about it.
And think about how it would feel for YOU to have this level of clarity.

My Brand Identity Guide
Created with heart by me (for me) — because my brand’s story needs to be told, too.
Introduction:
Meg, you are SO kind and SO fun. You put out such an incredibly supportive and warm energy that it’s impossible for people to not get wrapped up in it, and in you… so… you get to stop trying so hard.
You don’t have to try to MAKE people like you, because they just do. And if they don’t, then you didn’t want them in your life anyway. THAT is what I want you to own in this next chapter of your personal brand. YOU are incredible and magnetic. The world will think what it wants, and you don’t have to worry about it. And I don’t want you to feel like you have to pick and choose who you let into your world, the whole point is for your growth to stop feeling like effort AT ALL. Just be you. Not convincing people to like you, but not building barriers to keep people out either, just… existing. As the most YOU you can be. Not as work, but as rest, play, joy, love, and natural, organic growth.
AND to help you understand what that means and how to live into it, I’ve broken your brand up into 3 easy-to-digest sections: Your Brand (as a human): Creativity, Your Brand (as a business): Problem Solving, and Your Brand (as a movement): Kindness.
Because up to this point, you’ve been trying to do and bee all three things at once… and ended up just being sort-of each thing at any given time… but mostly confused… and confusing. So no more of that. Now you get to focus on one thing at a time and to know how you live into your own multi-faceted brand in the same way you help other to live into theirs.
To put it simply:
Creativity is how you see.
Problem Solving is how you serve.
Kindness is why you care.

I. Your Brand (as a human): Creativity
1. Your Personal Brand
Imagine what it would feel like to just sit in a room and make art. Nice, right? Now… think about what it would feel like for you to live in that creative headspace… but your canvas is your life. Uuuuum… weird. But exciting? But scary. But also kind of an invitation into the life you’ve always wanted to lead, but were too scared to actually want or try? Yeah.
The essence of your brand is creativity. It’s the thing you greet the world with at every turn. It is how you exist in society and in your own quiet spaces. Having a problem? Do art about it. Remember that old gem you used to use all the time and haven’t even thought of in years? It is SO YOU!!! And it’s POWERFUL!!! Because art, for you, doesn’t live on a canvas, it is alive. You say that being a mixed media artist means that everything is art materials to you, and that applies to cardboard and sticks JUST AS MUCH as it applies to people and circumstances.
Your conversations are a canvas. Your interactions and your connections are a canvas.
The safe spaces you create and the way you connect with people and move them through their emotions, it’s all art.
When you paint on a canvas or a wall, you’re moving your own emotions.
When you’re leading a conversation with someone you’ve just met and are helping them along their journey of self-acceptance and self-love, that’s the same act of creativity, just happening outside of your body.
You are an empath. You are incredibly intelligent. You see patterns and ideas and possibilities that no one else sees, and… it’s all art to you.
So stop making it feel so serious. Just let it be creative and fun.
2. The Heart of Your Brand
The heart of your brand is heart. Which sounds reductive, but it’s not. In fact, it is the most expansive thing about you. Because your heart isn’t limited to a smallish space in your chest, it’s on your sleeve, it’s in your throat, it’s in your eyes, your words, your energy. If it weren’t for all the practical life stuff getting in the way, you would be all heart. And that practical life stuff isn’t as necessary as you think, and it also gets to be an extension of your love and warmth.
You’ve been saying to clients “Because you love (insert client’s name here), you are going to care for her by (insert thing they need to do for their own sanity, safety, and wellbeing).” And that makes sense, because you ARE love.
But… remember to turn that love on yourself, too.
Because YOU love YOU, take care of yourself.
Because YOU love YOU, speak kindly to yourself.
Because YOU love YOU, be willing to show up in the most YOU way possible without sacrificing or trying to make yourself small.
You’ve said, before, that the heartbeat of your brand IS YOU, so let it BE that.
YOU are love, so don’t question it.
YOU are kind, so don’t stop yourself short.
YOU are brave, so don’t not-make-the-thing.
YOU are talented, so don’t pretend you’re not.
YOU are incredibly brilliant and people feel your brilliance and are drawn to it, so don’t hide it away from them.
This document exists in three sections, but ALL of them are heart-centered. Because all of them are you.
Let your love be the point.
Let your kindness be the hug that welcomes people in.
Let your bravery make it possible for you to speak out about the things that matter to you.
Let the world see your talent, knowing that it’s NOT bragging - it just IS.
Let your words echo throughout social media and your email list and podcasts and platforms regardless of who’s listening, because the point doesn’t actually change depending on the audience. The pitch does, but that’s not this section. That comes later.
When you are you, without the sales and the structure, just be.
Just speak your heart.
Lead with love.
Not to convince or please, but because it’s who you are.
3. Brand Positioning
This is where we get into practical applications of your personal brand. Because you’ve done so much growing over the past few years, and I am SO PROUD OF YOU. AND there gets to be a how and a why, even for your personal brand.
The biggest thing I want you to understand is that your personal brand is not your business.
• It influences your business.
• It supports your business.
• It creates opportunities for your business.
But it is not the business.
Your personal brand is the space where you get to be fully, openly, and unapologetically you. Let the business solve the problems. Let the business be the thing with the services and systems and pricing and sales pages. You do the creating.
• You get to think.
• You get to observe.
• You get to share ideas.
• You get to make art.
• You get to ask questions.
• You get to tell stories.
• You get to talk about the things that matter to you.
In the past, you’ve gotten caught up in trying to make every piece of content lead somewhere. Trying to make every conversation useful. Trying to justify every creative urge by turning it into a business asset.
And that’s been a recipe for burnout, every. single. time.
So no thank you.
We’re not doing that anymore.
Your personal brand exists because people want to connect with you.
• Not because they're looking for a service.
• Not because they're ready to buy.
• Not because they need branding.
They connect with you because you're thoughtful. Because you're warm. Because you're funny. Because you're curious. Because you're brave enough to say the thing that everyone wishes they could hear, even if they don’t realize how much it’s been hurting them to not hear it.
Your personal brand is where people fall in love with the way your brain works.
That's it.
That's the whole job.
So when you're wondering what to post, what to talk about, what to create, or what deserves your attention, stop asking yourself whether it's strategic. Ask yourself whether it's true.
• Is it interesting?
• Is it meaningful?
• Is it beautiful?
• Is it funny?
• Is it something you're genuinely excited to share?
Because your creativity, your curiosity, and your perspective are part of the strategy, but that’s not where your heart lives. Strategy isn’t what lights you up. Loving and living that love are what light you up.
So be an artist.
Be an Artist of Human Identity. Why? Because it’s practical? No!! Because it’s FUN!!!
Artists make things. And sometimes those things become other things, like businesses, movements, podcasts, projects. But you’ll never know what they can become, and what you’re capable of creating, if you’re all tied up in trying to be practical.
Creativity isn’t practical. It’s not supposed to be. It’s freedom. And it’s an expression of self.
That's the role of your personal brand.
Not to sell. Not to convince. Not to perform.
To create.
To connect.
To explore.
To exist in public as yourself.
And trust that the right people will find their way into your world because of it.
Where they go and what happens after they find you, that’s not the job of your personal brand. We can get to that later. Here, the job is to disconnect from the outcome and just be you. That’s it.
Your Personal Brand’s Bio:
"I'm a creator. I see the world through the lens of possibility and creativity and I am endlessly fascinated by people—what lights them up, what makes them feel alive, what stories they tell themselves about who they are, and what becomes possible when they stop making themselves smaller and start embracing more of their true identity.
I describe myself as an artist of identity. Some artists work with paint. Some work with clay. My medium is people, conversation, emotion, ideas, and possibility. Whether I'm creating a brand, hosting a podcast, speaking on a stage, or having coffee with a friend, I'm always exploring the same thing: what makes people who they are.
I believe life is meant to be loved. That we are allowed to want more joy, more freedom, more fulfillment, more rest, and more meaning. And I believe some of the most beautiful things in life happen when we stop trying so hard to be who we think we're supposed to be and allow ourselves to become more of who we actually are."
4. The Core Themes of Your Personal Brand
One of the things I want you to stop doing is trying to figure out what you're "allowed" to talk about.
You have spent so much time trying to make your content fit neatly into branding, business, marketing, personal development, identity, creativity, or whatever other box felt relevant at the time. But the reality is that your brain doesn't work in boxes.
Everything is messy and moving around and connected. And that’s AMAZING!!!
• A conversation about branding becomes a conversation about self-trust.
• A conversation about self-trust becomes a conversation about joy.
• A conversation about joy becomes a conversation about building a life that actually feels good to live and how to get there.
The themes of your personal brand aren't separate subjects. They're different doors that all lead into the same room.
That said, it’s helpful to know what those doors are. This is not an exhaustive list, it’s an inspirational one. You get to come here every time you need a little kick in the pants to remember what you’re doing or to figure out what to say. Let these be a jumping off point and then USE YOUR CREATIVITY:
Creativity - Creativity is the lens through which you experience the world. Not just as art and as making things, creativity is how you solve problems. It's how you process emotions. It’s how you look at the world, as it is, and see that it could be different. It’s engaging. It’s inviting. And it’s a curious window into your brain. People don’t want to be sold to all the time, but they do want to see what you’re creating.
Possibility - You see possibility everywhere and you are fascinated by what becomes possible when people see things from a new perspective. Like those old 3D glasses with one red eye and one blue eye. If you look through just the red lens, you see one side of the picture, if you look through the blue lens you see a different side of the same image. And if you look through both, things take on a whole other dimension. And you don’t judge or pick which way of looking is right, but you love to show people that it’s possible to see things differently.
Identity - Identity is front and center in almost everything you talk about. You can’t help it. It’s SO INTERESTING and it’s how you make sense of the people you’re interacting with. Someone who is open to talking about their identity is instantly interesting. If they’re not… they’re not your people. So let it become something you talk about without feeling weird or hesitant. Let it be the cool party trick that opens conversation and helps people to feel comfortable being themselves. Wear the “I ask great questions” button and see what happens.
Love - You keep trying to make this one more complicated than it is, but the truth is that love sits under the surface of everything you do. It’s in the way you listen, the way you create safe spaces, the way you encourage people to dream bigger, the way you challenge them to take care of themselves and want more. Love is not just a feeling, for you, it's a practice. It's a way of moving through life, and whether you're talking about branding, business, creativity, or personal growth, love is almost always somewhere in the conversation.
Humanity - This is a relatively new talking point for you, but it is SO POWERFUL. You are fascinated by people and you believe in the power of humanity. People’s stories, their emotions, their dreams, their contradictions (like how they see hope and possibility for everyone but not for themselves). And you know that business is human. That “It’s not personal, it’s just business” thing is BS. It’s always personal.
Joy - More than anything, your personal brand is an invitation for people to enjoy being alive. An invitation to create because it's fun, to rest without earning it, to dream without talking yourself out of it, and to remember that fulfillment isn't something waiting for you when you reach some mythical achievement, it's something you're allowed to experience every day along the journey.
5. Your Personal Brand on Social Media
Meg, I want you to pay attention to this section because you've spent years getting confused about what social media is supposed to do.
• Sometimes you've treated it like a marketing tool.
• Sometimes you've treated it like a portfolio.
• Sometimes you've treated it like a sales page.
• Sometimes you've treated it like a personal diary.
And because you've been trying to make it do all of those things at once, you end up freezing. Because you know that a single post that’s about all 4 of those things isn’t going to connect. It’s trying too hard. And yet, you persist, thinking that if you get the words just right it’s going to solve that overcrowded, imbalanced vibe you get after hitting post. But there aren’t any just right words. And you get to stop freezing.
And it starts here, with us simplify things.
So let’s get started:
First off, your personal brand and your business are not the same thing. But that doesn't mean they need separate social media accounts.
Your personal brand is the reason people pay attention. Your business is one of the things they discover after they get there. People follow you because they like the way you think. They like your perspective, your stories, your creativity, your energy.
They like the questions you ask and the conversations you create.
They are not waking up every morning hoping you'll teach them about branding.
They're showing up because they enjoy being in your world.
That's the job of your personal brand on social media: to show them your world and how you think about things in it. Use social media to create a world that people want to spend time in.
Every time you talk about creativity, identity, humanity, possibility, joy, kindness, self-trust, business ownership, art, relationships, emotions, or something weird and wonderful that made you think differently about life, you're building your personal brand.
The goal is not to constantly talk about branding.
The goal is to consistently sound like YOU.
The connection and trust that come from you being authentically YOU is what makes people want to stick around.
And eventually, some of those people will become interested in your business.
Not because you convinced them, because they became curious.
Because they saw the way your brain works and wanted more of it and managed to sell themselves on working with you before you’ve even started the sales conversation.
That's where the business comes in.
Your business content gets to solve problems.
Your business content gets to talk about services, clients, transformations, branding, messaging, positioning, identity, design, and all the practical things people hire you to help them with.
But your personal brand doesn't owe anyone a lesson.
It doesn't pitch. Its job is to create connection.
So the next time you're wondering what to post, stop asking: "What will sell?"
And start asking: "What am I feeling today?"
Because your personal brand is not a sales machine, it's an invitation into your world, your creativity, your perspective, and the things that matter to you.
End of story.
II. Your Brand (as a business): Problem Solving
6. What You do:
What you do is not branding… at least not in the way most people think about it.
People come to you asking for logos.
Or websites.
Or messaging.
Or a value proposition.
Or help explaining what they do.
And while those things are all part of what you do, they're usually not the actual problem.
Most business owners are stuck trying to solve symptoms:
• They're frustrated because their marketing isn't working.
• They're frustrated because they don't know what comes next.
• They're frustrated because they're working hard and not seeing the results they expected.
And because those are the problems they can see, those are the problems they identify needing help with.
So you listen.
You ask questions.
You connect dots.
You identify patterns.
Yes, you do branding, but branding is really just the container.
What you're actually doing is helping people solve problems.
Not one problem. The whole problem.
The problem underneath the problem, that they didn’t even know was there… so of course they couldn’t ask for help with it. And that's why your work doesn't start with answers, it starts with questions and conversation. Because the answers don't come from something practical, they come from understanding the human being, the business, the goals, the challenges, and the future they're trying to create.
What you do is help people make sense of all of that… and then give them the tools to build something meaningful from it.
7. The Transformation You Create:
Something I wish more business owners understood is that confusion is expensive.
And not just financially expensive, although it absolutely affects sales, marketing, growth, and opportunities.
• It's expensive emotionally.
• It's expensive mentally.
• It's expensive energetically.
• You second-guess yourself.
• You overthink.
• You start a project and abandon it halfway through because you're no longer sure it's the right thing.
• You spend months trying to solve problems that aren't actually the problem, and then feel depleted AND frustrated that things still aren’t working.
• You invest in training after training, thinking that one more thing will be the thing that makes you worthy of being hired.
• You convince yourself that if you could just figure out the right words, the right offer, the right strategy, or the right next step, everything would finally click into place and be perfect.
• And you trust people with your time, energy, and money who promise they can solve all your problems but end up leaving you with less than you had when you started.
Meg, the people who come to you are usually carrying around a whole heck of a lot more than they realize.
They're carrying pressure, self-doubt, fear, disappointment, a heavy sense of responsibility to ‘make it work’ and ‘get it right’, the memories of things they’ve tried that they thought would work out but didn’t. THOSE things, they are acutely aware of.
What they’re not as aware of carrying are things like hope, resilience, brilliant ideas that they’ve been overlooking because it felt like too much of a risk, incredible value that they’ve been hiding because they’re scared of being told ‘no’, dreams of what life could be like if they could just get through this hard bit…
They have a thousand ideas. A thousand questions.
And most of all, they're carrying the belief that they should be able to figure it all out and make it work.
The transformation you create isn’t magic, even though it sometimes feels like it. It’s practical. It’s pragmatic. And through that practical pragmatism, it’s also incredibly optimistic.
• Instead of confused and overwhelmed by possibility, they get to feel like things make sense.
• Like there’s a plan.
• Like they know what needs to get done because the things that are actually important become easier to identify.
• Like the future feels closer and more hopeful because instead of building a business one decision at a time, they’re building from a solid foundation.
• Like they trust their own decisions and don’t have to waste time on second-guessing and seeking out other people’s opinions for their messaging, services, and growth plans, because no one knows their business better than they do.
• Like they get to pick work up and put it down and actually have work/life balance, instead of constantly thinking about what’s not working because they’re ‘so close’ to figuring it out.
• Like they finally get to live into the freedom that comes with being your own boss, because nothing is over-complicated and everything just makes sense.
• Like they’re riding on a fully-charged electric bike, instead of pushing their bike uphill in the wrong gear (maybe even with the breaks on) and wondering why they’re so tired all the time.
The practical results of your work are obvious:
• Better messaging.
• Stronger positioning.
• More aligned offers.
• More confidence in marketing.
• More consistency.
• More polished presence.
But those are just what’s on the surface, visible from the outside.
The deeper transformation is trust.
• Trust in themselves.
• Trust in their decisions.
• Trust in their direction.
• Trust that they don't need to reinvent themselves every six months to be successful.
• And my favorite transformation of all, they stop treating themselves like they are the problem in their business and the thing that needs to change to ‘make it work’.
Because they are not the problem. Fear is. Self-Doubt is. But they are not the problem, they are the point.
Most of the time, they’ve been struggling because they were trying to build something meaningful without a solid foundation of meaning underneath it.
And once that foundation is solid, everything inside their brand has somewhere to grow. Including them.
8. How You Do It:
One of the things that makes your work difficult to explain is that it doesn't fit neatly into a single category.
• You're not just a brand strategist.
• You're not just a designer.
• You're not just a messaging expert.
• You're not just a coach.
And while all of those things are part of what you do, none of them fully explain how powerful your work actually is. Your work is too big to fit into any of those boxes.
And it starts with conversation.
Not because it's nice. Not because it's part of a process. Because that's where the answers are.
One of the biggest misconceptions in branding lives in his ‘how it works’ space. They think their job is to come to you with a problem and you, the expert, will solve the problem they’ve given you.
But that sets the expectation that they have to be ready to work with you. That they have to know what the problem is in order for you to solve it. That they have to get themselves and their business figured out first, so you can work your magic…
… and that's not how you work.
Your clients don’t have a job to do before they come to you for help.
They don’t have to make sense of things. They don’t have to figure out what’s not working. And you’re probably going to unravel anything they’ve ‘figured out’ before the real work can start.
They just get to come, as they are, ready for things to get better.
Because you know that the answers already exist. They're just buried underneath fear, assumptions, expectations, old stories, outdated goals, and all the noise that accumulates when you've been trying to figure everything out by yourself for years.
So you start by listening.
You ask questions.
Lots of questions.
Sometimes practical questions.
Sometimes uncomfortable questions.
Sometimes questions that seem completely unrelated until twenty minutes later when everyone in the room suddenly realizes why they mattered.
You create space for people to think out loud.
• To explore ideas.
• To change their minds.
• To admit what isn't working.
• To say the thing they've been avoiding saying.
• To dream a little bigger than they normally allow themselves to.
And then you do what you've always done naturally.
• You connect dots.
• You identify patterns.
• You notice contradictions.
• You hear the thing underneath the thing.
• You take dozens of disconnected thoughts, ideas, goals, frustrations, and possibilities and start organizing them into something people can actually understand and use.
It's a little bit strategy. A little bit psychology. A little bit problem solving. A little bit intuition.
And all of those pieces come together into a process that helps people understand themselves, their businesses, and their next steps more clearly than they did before.
That's why clients often say they feel seen.
• Because you're holding up a mirror and reflecting back the things that matter.
• Separating what's essential from what's distracting.
• And helping people trust themselves enough to build from that place.
Only after that do you get into what most people consider ‘branding’.
• The messaging.
• The positioning.
• The design.
• The marketing.
• The strategy.
Because once the foundation is clear, those things stop feeling like impossible decisions.
They become natural expressions of an identity that's already been defined.
That's how you do it.
9. What Makes You Different:
What makes your work different isn't any one skill, service, or process. It's the way you think about people.
Most branding professionals start with the assumption that their clients know what the problem is and simply need help solving it. You don't.
You know that most people are carrying around so much noise that they can't hear themselves anymore.
• They're carrying advice from coaches.
• Advice from mentors.
• Advice from social media.
• Advice from friends and family.
• Advice from people who mean well but don't actually understand what they're trying to build.
And after a while, all of that noise starts to sound like truth.
So before the real work can begin, you help people separate what's important from what isn't.
You help them identify which ideas are actually theirs and which ones they've adopted because they thought they were ‘supposed’ to.
You help them untangle years of expectations, assumptions, fear, and second-guessing until they can finally hear themselves again.
That's why your process is so conversation-heavy and it’s why you ask so many questions. And it's why clients often tell you they've never had a conversation quite like the ones they have with you.
Another thing that makes your work different is that you don't believe branding starts with what people think of as ‘branding’. You know that it starts with identity.
• Before the logos.
• Before the website.
• Before the messaging.
• Before the marketing.
• Before the design.
There is a human being trying to build something meaningful.
And until that person understands who they are, what they care about, and where they're headed, everything else feels like it’s built on jello instead of concrete.
That's why you spend so much time helping people understand themselves before asking them to make decisions about their brand. Because the clearer they become, the clearer the brand becomes.
And there's another difference that lives inside of the work you do that is SO different from other types of coaching or inner work… Most of the personal development, business, branding, coaching, and self-improvement industries are built around the idea of DOING more.
• Learn this strategy.
• Follow this system.
• Implement this framework.
• Fix this weakness.
• Add this habit.
• Optimize this process.
Your work isn’t about doing more, it’s about being more.
You recognize that most people aren't struggling because they don't know enough. If anything, they’ve probably spent too much time in that self-improvement space as a way to avoid actually showing up in the real world and having the conversations, selling their services, and doing the things that actually move the needle.
They're struggling because they've spent years collecting ideas, advice, expectations, obligations, and responsibilities until they can no longer tell the difference between who they are and who they think they're supposed to be.
So they keep hiding.
They hide in the self-help work. The convince themselves that signing up for another certification makes sense because after that then they’ll be ready. Then they’ll be valuable. Then things will all fit together and make sense.
But… things don’t actually work that way. If you thought you weren’t ready enough or valuable enough before the certification, you’re not going to feel ready enough or valuable enough after it. You’ll just have spent more of your precious time and money only to end up in more or less the same place.
That's why identity work feels so different.
Because it isn't really about adding anything. It's about clearing out what's in the way.
The goal is to become more of yourself.
More aligned.
More alive.
More aware of your natural gifts and how to use them.
More connected to the things that genuinely light you up.
More proud of who you are and how far you’ve come, so you know what you’re capable of in the future.
And that's what makes this work so powerful.
Because at its core, it isn't about productivity. It's about creating enough clarity and self-trust that people can stop spending all their energy trying to be someone ‘bigger’ and ‘smarter’ than they think they are, and start building a life and business that grow naturally and succeed without forcing or second guessing or getting caught in an endless loop of self-improvement.
That's not more work. That's happiness.
It’s not about doing more, it’s about knowing who you already are and being more that.
And finally, what makes your work different is that you care just as much about the person building the business as you do about the business itself.
There are plenty of people who can help a business owner make more money. People who can help them grow faster, work harder, optimize more, and chase bigger goals.
And while those things have value, and you DO help with all those things, you've never believed that any of those things were the whole story.
• You believe a business should support the life it's meant to fund.
• You believe success should feel good to live inside of.
• You believe people are allowed to want joy, freedom, fulfillment, balance, meaning, and rest.
• Not after they've "made it." Now.
A lot of brand strategists promise growth. You promise relief.
Relief because business stops taking up every square inch of their brain.
You aren't just helping people create clarity. You're helping them create capacity.
• More freedom.
• More energy.
• More life outside the business.
• More ability to enjoy what they're building.
You're never just asking: "How do we build a better brand?"
You're asking: "How do we build something meaningful enough that you'll make money now AND still love it years from now?"
10. Your Definition of Brand:
Most people hear the word "branding" and think about logos, fonts, colors, websites, and social media graphics. And don't get me wrong, you know that all of those things matter.
• You love design.
• You love good messaging.
• You love watching all the pieces come together in a way that feels cohesive and intentional.
But none of those things are actually the brand.
They're expressions of the brand. But what has to come first is the brand identity.
Because the point of branding isn't really about design.
It's about connection.
The job of branding is to help people understand who you are, what you believe, what you stand for, and whether they trust you enough to invite you, or your product, into their lives. That’s not a logo, that’s connection.
Every brand starts with a series of decisions being made by human beings in the hopes of connecting with other human beings.
• The logo is a decision.
• The messaging is a decision.
• The colors are a decision.
• The website is a decision.
• The offer is a decision.
Every single piece of a brand is a choice someone made because they wanted another person to see, hear, understand, or feel something.
And that matters because people don't make decisions the way they think they do.
• They don't choose a business because the logo is objectively better.
• They don't buy because a website is perfectly optimized.
• They don't hand over their money because someone found the world's most persuasive tagline.
• They choose the businesses they trust.
• They choose the businesses that feel like a safe investment.
• They choose the businesses that make them feel understood or heard or supported.
None of those things come from the logo. They come from the brand.
Think about being in a grocery store, staring at all the options for a cleaning product.
For the cleaning product, are you going to choose the spray bottle that says it’s going to make your life easier by throwing chemicals at the problem so you can set it and forget it? Or do you choose the one that’s sustainable and eco-friendly? What colors do you think the chemical brand’s bottle would be in? How about the colors for the eco-friendly choice? What sorts of words are you looking for on the packaging? Does it change your mind at all to find out that the chemical brand is also supporting sustainability projects? And what if you know the eco-friendly brand was actually bought-out by another big chemical company and you’re not sure if you trust their sustainable claims anymore?
That’s you, as a consumer, weighing out a decision about which product to buy. And the decision you’re going to make isn’t logical, it’s emotional.
You buy the cleaning product that feels like a better fit for your life and your priorities.
Now, remember that every step that lead to those products getting to the shelves so you could make YOUR decision as a consumer… was made by a human being. A human being who’s job it was to anticipate what is important to you and what’s going to make you want their product.
Human beings who are anticipating your emotional response, and trying to make the right choices to get you to pick them.
Now let’s turn the tables and imagine that YOU are the person making decisions inside of the business and that YOUR SERVICES are the cleaning product.
Because that’s exactly what it is to be a business owner. At any level, any size, your business is trying to make a connection with someone who needs your help.
That's why branding matters.
Not because it helps a business look more professional.
Because it helps people feel connected.
When branding is working, people feel like they're in the right place.
• They feel understood.
• They feel welcomed.
• They feel seen.
• They feel safe enough to trust someone with their money, their time, their attention, which are all incredibly valuable and finite resources.
And that kind of trust doesn't come from a logo.
It comes from alignment.
It comes from consistency.
It comes from knowing who you are and being brave enough to show up as that person every day and in every decision.
That's why this work starts with identity.
• Because before a brand can create trust, the human being(s) inside of the brand have to fully understand themselves and what they’re trying to accomplish.
• Before a brand can connect to people and become the thing they want in their lives, it has to know what it’s trying to say, and why.
• Before a brand can ask for someone's money, attention, or trust, it has to be clear about the value it brings to their life.
• Before a brand can become someone's obvious choice, it has to understand what makes it worth being the obvious choice.
Because a brand isn't separate from the people building it. Every decision, every message, every offer, every logo, every interaction is simply a human being trying to communicate something meaningful to another human being.
Branding is the process of intentionally creating emotional connection.
Not manipulation. Not persuasion. Not marketing.
Connection.
You say that everything in branding is human, because human connection is the point.
11. Your Services
One of the things you've struggled with in the past is explaining your services.
Not because they're complicated, but because they're interconnected.
It’s easy to want to separate the work out in to neat little boxes:
• Branding
• Messaging
• Positioning
• Design
• Strategy
But that's not how you experience the work. And it's definitely not how your clients experience it.
The reality is that every service you offer exists for the same reason:
To help people understand themselves, communicate more clearly, make better decisions, and build businesses that feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside.
The difference between your services isn't the outcome.
The difference is how much support someone needs and where they are in the process.
Here are the options:
• Alignment Session - For people who know they need something from you, but aren’t sure that something is.
The Alignment Session is often the beginning of a journey. People come with questions.
• Questions about their business.
• Questions about their offers.
• Questions about their messaging.
• Questions about what comes next.
Most of the time, they just need someone who can help them hear themselves again.
This is a space for conversation, reflection, problem-solving, and clarity. A space where people can put everything on the table and get fresh eyes on what’s working and what’s not.
The outcome isn't necessarily a brand. The outcome is understanding.
And understanding is where growth and change begin.
• Workshops & Private Trainings - For people who want to deepen their understanding of themselves and their brand in a focused, practical, bite-sized way.
These are small, paid experiences designed to help people think differently about their brands, make more aligned decisions, and develop a stronger understanding of what they're building and why.
Workshops are offered as intimate group experiences, while Private Trainings provide the same guidance in a one-on-one setting for people who want personalized support and flexibility.
For many people, these experiences become a natural stepping stone into an Alignment Session or The Heart of Your Brand because they provide a taste of the deeper work that's possible when someone has the space to slow down, think clearly, and be fully supported.
• The Heart of Your Brand - For people who are ready for the identity that makes everything else work.
This is the foundation of all my branding work.
This is the work of uncovering who someone is, what they believe, what they're building, why it matters, and how all of those pieces fit together.
It's the bedrock beneath every future decision.
This includes the messaging, the positioning, the marketing, and the growth plan, but it starts with building self-confidence and self-trust.
So that instead of building their brand from a place of confusion and fear, they're building from a solid foundation of clarity and confidence.
This service does not include design, but the investment they make in The Heart of Your Brand can be applied to Brand Identity & Design.
• Brand Identity & Design - For people who are ready to bring their identity to life.
This service includes everything inside The Heart of Your Brand, plus the visual expression of that identity.
And the goal isn't to create a brand that feels beautiful for the sake of being beautiful.
The goal is to create a brand that feels like an honest reflection of the person, business, or organization behind it.
A brand that communicates clearly.
A brand that creates trust.
A brand that helps prospective clients feel like you get them before they've ever spoken to you.
When branding design is working, people don't just recognize it. They connect with it.
And brand design that makes a connection has to start with identity. Brand design without identity is just decoration.
• Quarterly Brand Evolution - For people who know their brand is evolving, and want help through the growing pains.
One of the biggest misconceptions in branding is that it's something you do.
You create the brand, launch the website, check the box.
But people evolve, businesses evolve, goals evolve.
And good brands evolve alongside them.
Quarterly Brand Evolution exists to create space for that growth. It’s a place for business owners to make supported decisions, refine ideas, explore new opportunities, solve new challenges, and make sure the business is doing the work to support the life it's meant to fund.
Because the goal isn’t to create the perfect brand and set it in stone, the goal is to build something meaningful enough to grow with you. And this is how you get to feel supported through that growth.
• Identity Coaching - For people navigating significant change, growth, burnout, or reinvention.
This is the most personal work you offer, which is why it's only available to a small number of clients at a time.
Identity Coaching is for people who need ongoing support as they reconnect with themselves, build self-trust, navigate major life or career transitions, or step into a new chapter of who they're becoming.
Sometimes that work involves business ownership. Sometimes it involves burnout recovery. Sometimes it involves rediscovering an identity that got lost underneath years of responsibility, expectation, or caring for everyone else.
Unlike your other services, this isn't a project or a deliverable. It's a relationship.
A space where someone gets to stop holding on to everything by themselves and feel supported while they build a life that feels more aligned, meaningful, and fully their own.
The Real Product
If you're being completely honest, none of these services are actually about branding.
Branding is the container. The real product is trust.
• Trust in themselves.
• Trust in their decisions.
• Trust in their direction.
• Trust that they don't have to reinvent themself every six months.
• Trust that they're allowed to build something that makes money and makes them happy.
Because people don't come to you for a logo. They come to you because they're trying to build something meaningful.
And your job is to help them create the clarity, connection, and confidence to do exactly that.
12. Your Client
It’s easy to get lost in trying to figure out your ideal client’s job title, industry, or even by what stage they’re at in their business. But… that’s not how I want you to approach this.
I want you to recognize that what makes someone the right fit for you is their willingness to engage in the process and their openness to change and possibility.
The common thread isn’t what they do, it’s what they're experiencing.
• Your people are thoughtful people.
• Curious people.
• People who care deeply about doing meaningful work.
• People who want their businesses to feel aligned with who they are.
• People who are trying very hard to get it right… sometimes too hard.
• And they're carrying the weight of ideas, dreams, expectations, outcomes and usually a whole lot of pressure.
Sometimes they're starting something.
Sometimes they're growing something.
Sometimes they're rebuilding something.
Sometimes they're questioning something (or everything).
But almost all of them are standing in front of some version of:
"I know something needs to change."
And that's where you meet them. In the curiosity and the frustration.
Not after they've figured it out. Not once they have the answers and feel “ready”. Right in the middle of the uncertainty.
Your clients may think they need a logo, but they also know they need more than that.
• They're looking for clarity.
• They're looking for confidence.
• They’re looking for support.
• They're looking for relief.
• They're looking for someone who can help them understand what they're actually trying to build.
And most importantly, your people are willing to be honest.
They're willing to have the conversation and explore the possibility that the solution might not be what they originally thought it was. Because your work only works when someone is willing to be curious.
The people who thrive in your world aren't looking for a shortcut.
They're looking for something meaningful.
And they're willing to trust, be present, and do the work required to create their meaningful something.
13. Your Marketing
Meg, I know you hate this, but I think this section might change your life if you let it.
Because you've spent years treating marketing like a responsibility.
Something you have to figure out.
Something you're either succeeding at or failing at.
And because you've thought of it that way, marketing has not been fun.
But marketing isn't actually your job. Connection is.
Remember everything you've written in this document so far:
• Human connection is the point.
• Branding is connection.
• Trust is the product.
• Conversation is where the answers live.
So why would marketing be any different?
The purpose of your marketing is not to convince people to hire you.
It's to help people understand how you think. That's it.
The people who eventually become clients usually don't hire you because of one post...
… or one podcast episode…
… or one email.
They hire you because they've spent enough time around you and your ideas that they trust you.
Your marketing exists to create familiarity.
Connection. Trust. Curiosity.
Your marketing is simply the public expression of the conversations you're already having every day.
• So talk about the things you're noticing.
• The questions you're asking.
• The patterns you're seeing.
• The stories you're telling.
• The ideas you're exploring.
• The things you're learning.
• The things you're creating.
That's why forcing yourself into traditional marketing frameworks always feels so gross and uncomfortable.
Because you're trying to manufacture or force something that already exists naturally.
You don't need to become a marketer. You just need to be you, but more visible.
So share more of what you're already thinking, what you're already noticing, what you're already creating. The purpose of your marketing is not to make people buy, it’s to help the right people recognize themselves in your work. And when they do, you have the next step ready for them.
The Role of Each Platform
Instagram & Facebook: Instagram and Facebook are where people get to spend time with you. People aren't showing up because they desperately need a branding lesson. They're showing up because they enjoy your perspective, your stories, your creativity. They enjoy being in your world.
This is where you get to talk about:
• Creativity
• Identity
• Humanity
• Business ownership
• Self-trust
• Joy
• Personal stories
• Client stories
• Things you're noticing and thinking about
The goal here is not education, it’s just to connect.
If someone spends enough time in your world, they'll eventually become curious about the work.
Instagram and Facebook aren't where people usually make the decision to hire you, they're where people learn to trust you and get curious about what your work could do for them.
LinkedIn: LinkedIn is where your thought leadership lives.
While Instagram is often about sharing experiences, observations, stories, and moments, LinkedIn is where those same ideas become frameworks, perspectives, and conversations about business.
This is where you talk about:
• Branding
• Identity
• Leadership
• Decision making
• Business growth
• Client transformations
• The relationship between people and business
The goal isn't to prove you're smart. The goal is to help people understand how you think.
After experiencing your LinkedIn content people should say: "I've never thought about it that way before."
Because that's usually the first step toward working with you.
Email Marketing: Social media creates familiarity. Email creates intimacy.
• Someone follows you on social media because they're interested.
• Someone joins your email list because they want more.
This is where the deeper conversations happen.
• Longer stories.
• More vulnerable reflections.
• More behind-the-scenes thinking.
• More room to explore concepts that don't fit into a caption.
This is where people begin to feel like they know you, and because your work is so relationship-driven, that's incredibly valuable.
The goal of your email list is not constant selling.
The goal is relationship building.
And the sales naturally become easier because the relationship already exists.
"What Is A Brand?" Podcast: The podcast sits directly between your personal brand and your business.
It's where the two worlds meet and it’s where you get to explore the questions that fascinate you. Questions about:
• Identity
• Branding
• Humanity
• Self-trust
• Business ownership
• Personal growth
• Meaningful work
The podcast isn't really about branding, not in the traditional sense.
It's about helping people understand the relationship between who they are and what they’re creating.
The podcast gives people the fullest experience of your brain.
It's the closest thing to sitting across from you having coffee.
And because of that, it is the strongest trust-building tool in your entire business.
To simplify your entire marketing ecosystem, it would look like this:
Instagram and Facebook help people discover you.
LinkedIn helps people respect your expertise.
Email helps people know you.
The podcast helps people understand you.
III. Your Brand (as a movement): Kindness
14. Your Definition of Kindness
The way you see it, kindness is so much bigger than ‘being nice’.
Somewhere along the way, people started confusing kindness with being agreeable.
• With being easy.
• With never rocking the boat.
• With saying yes when they want to say no.
• With being endlessly accommodating.
• With keeping the peace at the expense of themselves.
But none of those things are actually kindness.
Those things are fear.
• Fear of disappointing people.
• Fear of being rejected.
• Fear of being seen.
• Fear of being perceived as wanting too much.
But real kindness isn’t fearful, it’s strong. It’s unapologetic. It’s a shield held up to protect people who need protection. It’s standing up for what’s right, even if it’s scary.
• Kindness is telling the truth.
• Kindness is creating safety.
• Kindness is believing in someone when they've forgotten how to believe in themselves.
• Kindness is asking the question no one else is asking because the answer will change things for the better.
• Kindness is holding space for someone while they figure things out.
• Kindness is allowing people to be human and holding them while they survive the initial discomfort of that.
• And sometimes kindness is challenging people. Not because you're trying to change them, because you can see something beautiful in them that they can't see yet.
Kindness, in your world, is helping people to love and to prioritize themselves. To take off the masks they no longer need, to trust themselves. Because that's the thing nobody talks about:
Being yourself in a world that glorifies perfection and self-improvement is actually terrifying.
Not because being yourself is difficult, but because being yourself means letting other people see you, as you are. And that requires courage.
The reason kindness matters so much to you is because kindness creates the safety that courage needs in order to exist.
• People grow when they feel safe.
• People create when they feel safe.
• People dream when they feel safe.
• People take risks when they feel safe.
• People tell the truth when they feel safe.
• People become more of themselves when they feel safe.
And when enough people feel safe enough to be their true selves, something incredible happens.
• The world becomes more honest.
• More creative.
• More connected.
• More human.
Because so much of the pain people carry comes from believing they have to earn their worth, to earn their place, and to earn their right to take up space.
But what’s the alternative?
What if people knew they were valuable before they proved anything?
What if they felt safe enough to stop performing and start living?
What if they trusted themselves enough to choose joy instead of resentment, alignment instead of constriction, authenticity instead of approval?
That's the world that kindness makes possible.
That's why kindness is so much bigger than being nice.
Being nice is a behavior. Kindness is a belief.
A belief that every human being deserves dignity, compassion, understanding, and the freedom to become more of their true selves, without fear or resentment.
And if there is a movement underneath everything you do, it's this:
Creating a world where people feel safe enough to be fully themselves, because when they stop shrinking or fighting, they get to start creating lives, businesses, relationships, and communities that are built from truth instead of fear.
That's what kindness can do.
And the world needs more of that.
15. The Kindness Revolution
When people hear the word revolution, they usually imagine something loud.
Protests. Movements. Massive cultural moments that divide history into a before and an after.
Your revolution lives in conversations.
• In one-on-one conversations that shift someone’s perspective.
• In podcast questions that change the narrative and make people feel a little more powerful.
• In the work you do to empower kind people to own their strength and stand up to the world as their full selves.
And then another person does the same.
And another.
And another.
Because every time someone becomes brave enough to be fully themselves, something interesting happens…
• The voices that profit from fear become a little less powerful.
• The voices that profit from shame become a little less convincing.
• The people who want control lose a little of their influence.
Because people who trust themselves are much harder to manipulate than people who don't.
That's why kindness matters.
Not because it's soft. Because it's powerful.
There are people in this world who want you to believe kindness makes you weak.
• That compassion makes you naïve.
• That empathy makes you easy to take advantage of.
• That caring is somehow less powerful than cruelty.
But history tells a different story. Countless times, we’ve seen it play out:
• Cruelty creates fear. Kindness creates courage.
• Cruelty creates division. Kindness creates connection.
• Cruelty can control people for a while. Kindness helps people set themselves free.
Kindness is not weakness. It's armor.
The kind of armor that allows you to walk through the world without becoming hard.
The kind of armor that makes bullies powerless because they can no longer convince you that your worth depends on their approval.
The kind of armor that allows people to stay open-hearted in a world that often rewards cynicism.
And that's where the revolution begins.
16. The Talking Points of the Revolution
These are the core ideas at the heart of The Kindness Revolution.
Use them to spread the word:
1. Kindness Is Strength, Not Weakness
One of the biggest lies we've been sold is that kindness makes people weak.
That kindness means being passive, letting people walk all over you, staying quiet to not upset the status quo.
But kindness isn't weakness. Kindness is courage.
• It's standing up for yourself and others.
• It's telling the truth when it would be easier to stay silent.
• It's remaining open-hearted in a world that constantly invites you to become cynical.
Anyone can become hard. Kindness requires the strength of conviction to know who you are, to know what’s right, and to be willing and able to look cruelty in the face and say “you have no power”.
2. Being a Kind Shark
The business world loves to celebrate the ‘shark’. The ruthless entrepreneur who’s willing to win at someone else's expense.
But that's not the kind of shark you're interested in.
You believe in the power of redefining the narrative to empower a new kind of shark. A kind shark.
• A Kind Shark sees opportunities and takes them. Not because they're selfish, but because they understand that opportunities can create value for everyone involved.
• A Kind Shark asks for the sale because they know their work can help.
• A Kind Shark makes the introduction because they know two people should meet.
• A Kind Shark raises their hand because they know they have something meaningful to contribute.
The world doesn't need fewer ambitious people. It needs more ambitious people with kind hearts who are willing to realize that business was never ‘just business’ and that anyone who said so was just making excuses for bad behavior.
3. Women and Creatives Will Help Save Us
The world treats kindness, creativity, intuition, empathy, imagination, and collaboration as if they're secondary qualities. Nice to have, but not essential.
But what if we've been undervaluing the very things that move humanity forward?
• Artists imagine new possibilities.
• Women challenge old systems.
• Creatives build culture.
• Kind people create community.
The society we’re living in was built by people who value competition, control, and a self-centered kind of power.
But you believe in a future that is built by people brave enough to create something better, together.
Because isolation keeps people small.
Connection makes people powerful.
You know that creativity is power.
You know that kindness is power.
You know that connection is power.
And when enough people begin creating, connecting, and believing in themselves instead of shrinking, competing, and hiding... the world and everything in it can begin to change for the better.
17. Public Speaking, Community & Visibility
One of the things I want you to understand is that visibility is not about attention.
It's about impact.
For a long time, you've had a complicated relationship with visibility because somewhere along the way visibility started to feel performative. Like you had to market yourself, promote yourself, prove yourself, or somehow become more polished in order to matter.
But that's not what visibility is for.
For you, visibility is simply how ideas travel.
And if The Kindness Revolution is going to grow, those ideas need places to go.
• They need conversations.
• They need audiences.
• They need communities.
• They need stages.
• They need microphones.
• They need people willing to speak them out loud.
That's where public speaking comes in.
Public speaking isn't separate from your work. It's a natural extension of it.
Whether you're speaking on a podcast, leading a workshop, standing on a stage, facilitating a conversation, or sitting in a room with ten people, you're doing the same thing you've always done:
• You’re asking meaningful questions.
• You’re helping people see themselves differently.
• You’re challenging old assumptions.
• You’re creating safety.
• You’re creating possibility.
• You’re creating connection.
The goal isn't to tell people what to think.
The goal is to help people remember who they are and what they actually care about.
That's why your visibility matters.
Every conversation you have creates a ripple.
Someone hears an idea. They think differently. They make a different choice.
They show up differently in their life, their business, their relationships, or their community.
And then someone else experiences the impact of that change.
That's how movements grow.
And community matters, too. Community reminds people that they're not crazy.
They're not the only ones who want something different.
And I’m not asking you to create that community, I’m asking you to consistently go out and find communities that already exist and create momentum in them.
So speak. Meet people. Introduce yourself and your beliefs.
You are a natural connector. You see the good in people and connect them with like-minded, or complementary, good people. So keep doing that. And let it happen in a more powerful way.
Connect with people in power and then connect them to each other.
Meet individuals who are fighting the good fight alone and welcome them into communities that care about what they care about.
Help people to know themselves, and then help them to know each other.
And this is why YOUR visibility matters.
Because YOUR visibility helps to make those connections possible.
• It’s why you speak.
• It’s why you host a podcast.
• It’s why you create content.
• It’s why you lead workshops.
• It’s why you build relationships.
Not because you're trying to become an influencer.
Because you're trying to create more opportunities for people to hear the ideas that will help them become more fully themselves, and more powerful members of the kindness revolution as a whole.
Your ideas are not marketing messages. They're invitations.
• Invitations for people to think differently.
• To trust themselves more deeply.
• To show up more fully.
• To create more intentionally.
• To lead more courageously.
And every stage, podcast, workshop, social media post, networking event, and conversation simply becomes another opportunity to extend that invitation.
That's why you need to be consistently visible.
To help the right people find the ideas they didn't know they were looking for.
18. The World Your Work is Building
At first glance, it might seem like the work you do changes brands.
People come to you for clarity.
For messaging.
For positioning.
For design.
For direction.
And all of those things matter.
But none of those things are the whole story, because brands don't create themselves.
People create brands.
People create businesses.
People create communities.
People create culture.
And when a person changes, everything around them changes too.
That's why this work matters.
Every time someone stops treating themselves like the problem and starts living into their true identity, they create more space for creativity, possibility, joy, generosity, and even more meaningful work.
And the impact doesn't stop with them.
• Because the business owner who trusts herself shows up differently for her clients.
• The leader who trusts themselves creates a different experience for their team.
• The artist who trusts themselves creates work that changes the people who experience it.
• The person who feels safe enough to be themselves creates safety for other people to do the same.
That's the ripple effect. That's how change happens.
Not because branding changes the world.
Not because kindness changes the world.
Not because identity work changes the world.
But because people change the world.
And eventually, those ripples become waves.
That's the future you're helping create.
• A world with more courage.
• More creativity.
• More connection.
• More kindness.
A world where people feel safe enough to be themselves and brave enough to help others do the same.
And if there's one thing worth dedicating your life to, it's that.

Conclusion:
This document is the foundation of my business.
It's the place I come back to whenever I'm creating something new, making a decision, feeling uncertain, or trying to remember what really matters.
As you read it, did you just think about me? Or did you think about yourself, too?
Did you think about what it would feel like for you to have this?
-
To know what you're building?
-
To understand why it matters?
-
To have a place you could return to whenever your business starts feeling noisy, overwhelming, or uncertain?
Because that's what this work has given me.
And I want that for you too.
