Self-doubt Reality Check

This exercise is simple.
And SO powerful.
You’re going learn how to prove your self-doubt wrong.
Step 1: Let It Talk
Draw a line straight down the center of your page, creating two columns.
At the top of the left column, write "I CAN'T because...", and then fill that column with all the reasons someone wouldn’t hire you or why you're not good enough.
All the reasons you’re “not qualified.”
All the reasons you’re “not ready.”
All the reasons you’re “not enough.”
Are you too inexperienced, too old, too young, too emotional, not smart enough, not strong enough...? What is it? What do you believe about yourself?
Get it all out.
Don’t censor it. Don’t soften it. Let your inner critic have the mic for a minute.
Because pretending those thoughts aren’t there doesn’t make them go away....
Step 2: Cross-Examine
Now go back to the top of your "I CAN'T because..." list.
At the top of the other column, write "I CAN because..." and then start writing out a direct rebuttal to each of those negative, self-doubt-laden statements.
I don't want vague affirmations, here.
I want evidence.
If the left side says: “I don’t have enough experience.”
The right side could say: “I have ten years of real-world work and clients who trust me.”
If the left side says: “There are already so many people doing this.”
The right side might say: “There is only one person who does this like I do, and my way is special because _.”
One by one, respond to each of those self doubts.
And as you respond to each one, cross off the negative statement. Because it's gone, now.
What’s Actually Happening
Here’s what I love about this exercise:
Every single time I have someone do this exercise, the "I CAN because..." column is SO. MUCH. MORE. FULL than the "I CAN'T because..." side. Every. single. time.
As you write in that right side column, you're going to start remembering things you forgot. Your wins. Great feedback you've gotten. Growth you've accomplished.
You'll realize you have far more evidence of how amazing you are, and how capable you are, than you have of any actual failures.
Self-doubt speaks loudly. But it rarely has receipts.
When you let it live in your brain, you're giving it a megaphone.
When you force that self doubt onto a page and make it face reality... it doesn't stand a chance.
Why This Matters (Especially for Your Brand)
And here’s the deeper truth in this exercise:
Both realities ARE possible... The I can't and the I can are both alive inside of you, and you get to choose which one you make real by believing in it.
You can choose to build your brand from: “I’m not ready.” or “I’m not enough.” and you will be. You'll be "not ready" and you'll be "not enough".
OR you can build your brand from: “I can.” and “I will.”
Your beliefs direct your behavior. And those behaviors become your reality.
You get to choose which version of the story you invest your time and energy into.
Because what you believe, the world will believe, too.
I have people do this exercise because when you have written, visible evidence of your capability and your ability, you get to show up with confidence.
Your brand voice is stronger, your responses are less defensive, your decisions are more grounded.
Confidence isn’t arrogance.
It’s choosing to align with the truth, instead of the reality you've invented to keep you small.
BUT WAIT!! You didn’t do this to just stick it in a drawer!
You did it because something in you needed it.
This is usually the moment people say, “Huh, that was interesting,” and then go make themselves busy again. Don’t do that.
In a Brand Breakthrough Session, we can take what you uncovered and untangle it together. No pressure. Just clarity. The kind of clarity that actually changes things for the better.
If you’re feeling that little nudge that says there’s more here… follow it.
