December Creativity Challenge!

December is tough... right?? Right.

Yes, it's the most wonderful time of the year, with all the fun and family togetherness and whatnot, but it's also the most STRESSFUL, EXHAUSTING, OVEREXTENDED AND UNDERPAID time of the year if you're a small business owner.

So I'm doing a thing. And I'd love for you to do it with me.

Every day, for the whole month of December, I'll be filling in a single 2x2" square with SOMETHING. Drawing, painting, patterns, squiggles, illustration, collage, whatever floats my boat at that particular moment.

Why? Because in all the crazy, running-around-ness, it's really important for me to sit down, for even just a couple minutes a day, and do something for me. Something to ground me. Something to get me out of my head and back into my body. Something that doesn't have to BE anything (not pretty, not perfect, not special, not anything), but that can just exist.

So do it with me. Start by mapping out some 2x2" squares on a page. They don't even have to be GOOD squares. And you don't even have to DRAW them, you can literally click below to download and print a sheet where I did the drawing part for you.

And then, one by one over the course of the month of December, just.... fill them in.

Use words. Use lines. Use shapes. Use anything that feels right for you in that moment. This should NOT take you more than a couple minutes...

Why? Because you're not recreating the Mona Lisa. You're dedicating a small portion of your day to yourself.

The more time we spend on our computers and trapped in our anxious, buzzing brains, the more crazy we get and the more everything seems to escalate to the point where we can't see straight, much less run a business or function as a spouse/parent/human being. By breaking away from that December drive cycle (the too-much-to-do-not-enough-time-to-do-it thing we're all just ramping up for), you'll be taking a moment to disrupt that pattern and, dare to dream, maybe even break it.

When you wake up in the morning, especially this time of year, what's the first thing you think of. Is it a line item on your to-do list? Something you should have done already that you're feeling guilty about? That one thing that you're really not looking forward to two weeks from now that's going to slightly ruin every day leading up to it? Well... how about setting yourself a practice of sitting down and taking 5 minutes to clear your mind and turn on your creativity instead?

Sounds pretty great.

So that's what I'm doing. Follow along on instagram @inkinddesign to watch me and to share your own creations!!!!

It starts NOW!! Today is DAY 1 and this is my square for today:
